ave you ever wondered why some Nigerians always mouth off about "God" and Nigeria? Despite my professional qualifications and experience, I have come to the conclusion that the problems with Nigeria and many Nigerians especially the power/political elite and their cronies are spiritual and mental disorder. Otherwise how could on explain so many Nigerians dragging God into what is clearly demonic and madness. My late parents, Alfred Njoku Eberendu and Nzenalu Florence Njoku taught me and my siblings to always seek and speak the truth without fear or favor. Only the truth shall set you free. The only 1st republic ruler I respect was Sir Ahmadu Bello because he always told the truth no matter how bitter unlike Zik who was a "compromiser" and pretended that all was fine in Nigeria.
As a poor pre-medical student from Africa at University of Windsor, Canada, I had to work to put myself though school. I worked on a psychiatric ward where I was given wide latitude to in dealing with patients and gained valuable knowledge and insight into mental disorders. Lately, I have become interested in spiritual and emotional (soul) aspects of human problems because Nigerian problems and Nigerians seem to defy scientific and business theories including the law of gravity.
The most deplorable use of God was by General Yakubu Gowan who in a recent interview with Champion Newspapers claimed that his becoming the military ruler after a bloody coup that assassinated his Commander In Chief (General Ironsi) and his host(Col Fajuyi) was an "act of God". In 1966,Gowan and his coup plotting gang murdered his Commander In Chief; destroyed military seniority protocol by becoming military head of state despite far more senior officers like Brigadier Ogundipe; reneged on Aburi Accords and plunged your country into a bloody war in which 3 million(mainly Igbo) perished; gave an empty promise of "no victor, no vanquished" at the end of the uncivil war; later boasted that Nigeria's problem was how to spend the limitless money; reneged on handing over to civilians; and egotistically said that Nigeria must decide Gowan's fate before deciding Nigeria's fate; as well as other blunders yet almost 40 years later in 2007, Gowan still thinks that his incompetent and disastrous military regime was an "act of God"!!!!. Coup plotting and being the primary beneficiary at the expense of others is an act of the devil.
The military intervention in Nigerian politics and political development was a disaster. Although there would have been problems and other inherent issues, there would be no uncivil war if civilians were in-charge. Did Gowan read the book: Blood on the Niger" about the atrocities at Asaba during the uncivil war under his watch? Gowan even said that Nigerians are "now fully reconciled' after the uncivil war. My goodness, Gowan which planet are on? You really think that Nigerians are reconciled with the Igbo or Niger Delta? Tell that to the marines as we say in America. If Gowan is Godly, he would know the truth. He would repent and apologize to Nigerians for military intervention in Nigeria politics, and those millions starved to death for all the blunders and atrocities under his regime. My greatest disappointment with Gowan is that at almost 70, by now he would be wise and somberly reflect on the mistakes of the past when he was young and inexperienced and how they could be avoided and lessons learned. We all make mistakes. Not admitting ones mistakes and not learning any lessons from past blunders especially starving millions of women and children to death is demonic not Godly. For a Godly person, starving millions of women and children to death to "keep Nigeria one" would be wrong in hindsight because the end does not justify the means. A Godly person knows that Nigerians are not reconciled. Reconciliation comes after repentance and forgiveness and atonement. Nigerians desperately need reconciliation.
Then there is the last Nigerian emperor who claimed that he was the god of Nigeria and that God told him all sorts of things including wiping out Odi, Zaki-Biam, Choba, Okigwe, Onitsha; trampling on the human rights of Nigerians; using state security agencies and resources to deal with his perceived enemies and political opponents; disregarding court orders and rule of law; the tenure elongation or Third Term project; and rigging elections were "acts of god." The emperor claimed that his becoming the Nigerian president in 1999 was and act of god. This is absolute lies. Anyone familiar with Nigerian politics and northern kingmakers would know that the northern kingmakers did not want an Igbo(Ekwueme) to become the president and they also wanted to compensate the Yoruba for annulling Abiola's victory in 1993. The fear of the Igbo and the being handpicked and financed northern kingmakers are not " act of god" but demonic. The last emperor should be grateful to northern kingmakers especially IBB and Atiku who put him in office. My advice to the emperor is an old Igbo proverb: "he whose palm kernel is cracked by the benevolent spirit should not forget to be humble."
I hope that the new Nigerian president who is the first university graduate to rule Nigeria would not claim that his becoming the president was an "act of god' because he should know better. The same goes for the both Senate president and House speaker who were imposed on Nigerians by the last emperor.
Some Nigerians would tell you that God "loves" Nigeria because Nigeria is still "one country". Is Nigeria really united and "one country'? I am one of those who do not believe in phony or forced marriage. I see many couples who are actually enemies or opposition party pretending to be "married" and "living together" without any love, trust and communication. I saw how the former Soviet Union used to claim to be "one country". Nigeria cannot be really one country until certain fundamental changes are made and the people tell each other the truth. Others will tell you that there is a reason why "god" created Nigeria. Are you sure that it was God who created Nigeria? You will also hear "in name of Jesus " by Christians and "Allah" by Muslims in Nigeria more than you would hear in the whole world combined. But are Nigerians really Christians and Muslims respectively by walking the talk. Talk is cheap . Actions speak louder than words. By their fruits, you shall know them. Both Christianity and Islam revolve around justice/fairness, love and peace principles.
Older prostitutes were accusing younger ones of using charms to take way their(older prostitutes0 customers but this young prostitute denied it but claimed that she would fast and pray to "God" and the customers would be flocking in. praise the Lord!!! Even are robbers in Nigeria will pray to "God' for successful operations of robbing people. The corrupt looters and crooks who are worst than armed robbers would pray to "God" before looting the national treasury and enslaving Nigerians. A Nigerian politician after rigging elections would claim that his/her "victory" was an "act of god". Only in Nigeria do corrupt crooks and looters claim their evil and wicked acts are "act of god".
An author on Nigeriaworld.com wrote an article titled: 'Have you ever asked God why he made you a Nigerian?" The list and instances of Nigerians misusing God is endless but you get the picture. What does all this mean? Did God really create Nigeria? Are Nigerians Godly people? What is the truth?
Let me start with the easiest one. Hint: the name Nigeria was coined by Lord Lugard's concubine. God did not create Nigeria. The British colonial masters created Nigeria for British administrative convince in 1914. God did not make anyone Nigerian. The British did. Is your god Lord Lugard? The right question should be: "Have you ever asked the British why they made you a Nigerian"? If you look at the map of Nigeria, you would see 3 natural countries separated by River Niger and River Benue. My late parents (Alfred Njoku Eberendu and Nzenalu Florence Njoku) told me that rivers were God's boundaries. The only 1st republic ruler I respect was Sir Ahmadu Bello because he always told the truth no matter how bitter unlike Zik who was a "compromiser". Ahmadu Bello called Nigeria 'the mistake of 1914". Obafemi Awolowo called it "a mere geographical expression". Listen to these wise historic Nigerians? Read your colonial history before mouthing off and equating colonial masters with God. God did not make you a Nigerian. Do not blame God for British and men's foolish or mistakes. Nigeria is a British tarred baby and time bomb as well as the failure Nigerians to make the necessary fundamental changes to defuse the time bomb.
There are basically two forces operating in this world namely: God and Devil (mammon). Nigeria has obviously been under the devil since 1914 when Lord Lugard and the British created Nigeria. Many Nigerians are demonic. The devils are feasting and enjoying in Nigeria while the people are in suffering like hell.
Today's Nigeria and many Nigerians display devilish characteristics. Nigerians are one of the most ungodly people I have seen on planet earth. Hint: Injustice, hatred, selfishness and oppression are devilish not Godly. First the god of some Nigerians is an evil, wicked and false god. Nigeria is the land of injustice, misery, death and destruction. It is "Hell on Earth" for the ordinary people who are suffering and dying while the devils (demigod rulers, "oga billionaire") and their cronies who come to kill, steal and destroy are feasting and looting the treasury. The people suffering and groaning under man-made hardship despite abundant human/natural resources is not Godly.
The real god of Nigerians is called mammon (the god of money and materialism). Majority of Nigerians worship money, power and material things. Money is the god of Nigerians. With money all things are possible in Nigeria. You can have and worship either God or mammon but not both. Even though Nigerians flock to the churches and mosques, it is obvious that they actual worship money, power and materialism (idolatry).
Greed, corruption, insatiable primitive accumulation of material wealth, selfishness and self-centered behaviors are not of God but are devilish. Love your neighbor, treat others the way you like to be treated, and service above self which are alien to many Nigerians is of God. Primitive disregard for the sanctity of human life is not of God but devilish. Do not kill or murder is of God. Injustice is not of God but devilish. Lack of principles and integrity is not of God but devilish. Wasting the youth and women are not of God but devilish. Hatred of the truth is not of God but devilish. Egotism and arrogance are not of God but devilish. Lawlessness and lack of rule of law is not of God but devilish. I can go on listing the characteristics of Nigeria and Nigerians to show the godlessness but you already get the picture.
Look at the type of people thriving and getting ahead in Nigeria such as the corrupt power/political elite and "oga" billionaires. Godly people are suffering and being called "fools" or "nobody" because they are not interested in looting the treasury and enslaving or oppressing the people. You have to be a self-centered crook and criminal with no principles and conscience to get ahead in Nigeria. Some would even sell their mothers and child for money and power. The principled and selfless people who are not interested in chasing money, power, titles and other material things are actually called "unnigerian".
Even the national anthem of Nigeria with God as the centerpiece was replaced with a military self-worship anthem. That anthem requested God to help Nigerians to build a nation where no man will be oppressed. It was replaced with "arise o compatriots--- the sacrifice of our heroes shall never be in vain". I rest my case.
What are the characteristics of a Godly country and people? The Bible lists them as: Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
Are Nigerians loving (selfless), joyous, patient, kind, good, faithful, gentle and self-controlled (self-disciplined)? Analyze these qualities and compare them to the current Nigeria and Nigerians. You do not have to be a rocket scientist to know the obvious answer.
In summary, I hope that I have demonstrated that Nigeria and Nigerians are under demonic spirit not the Spirit of God. Nigeria problems are spiritual(demonic) and mental disorder. Injustice, dishonesty, egotism, greed, corruption and lawlessness are demonic. The love and worship of money, power and materialism are the spirit of mammon(devil).Lack love(selfishness), lack of self-control(indiscipline) and lack of truth are demonic not Godly. Suffering, misery, oppression, death and destruction despite abundance of human and natural resources is demonic not Godly. Being out of touch with reality, hallucinations, delusions of grandiose and self-aggrandizement which are rampant in Nigeria are mental disorders.
Nigerians should stop mouthing off about how God created Nigeria or made us Nigerians. The British colonial masters created Nigeria and made us Nigerians in a devilish forced marriage and since then neither God nor heaven have rested. Nigerians especially the political/power elite should also stop mouthing off about how their evil and devilish acts and ways are 'act of god". The power/political elite who ruined Nigeria should stop claiming that their shameful devilish acts were acts of God. These demigod rulers were false "gods' of Nigeria with divine rights as well as power of life and death over the people. Gowan and the last emperor should take special note. All the characteristics of Nigeria and Nigerians such as injustice, greed, corruption, selfishness, lawlessness, worship of money, power and status, and primitive disregard for the sanctity of life are devilish and demonic.
The challenge facing Nigerians and the new government is how to transform Nigerians and Nigeria from devilish to Godly people and country. The new president as the first university graduate to rule Nigeria has a historic opportunity to make a difference by transforming Nigeria into a Godly country. Rule of law, fighting a total war on corruption with no untouchables, land reform, justice/fairness for the Igbo, Niger Delta, women and youth including resource control, sovereign national conference(SNC) or restructuring the fundamentally flawed Nigeria along the Aburi Accords ("True federalism" a.k.a confederation) would be excellent moves.
Peace to all.
